Intelligent indexing of multimedia content

Post by ritters »

I renamed all 148 jpg-files in a folder to ensure the order I wanted to have them - but Photo Station still showed the old filenames and so the order was wrong. I had expected that the software recognizes by itself the change of the filenames - but nope.

So I searched for an option to tell the QNAP-software to reindex the contents of this folder - but nope again.

So I had to start a complete reindex - the only available option. The NAS was busy for about 55 hours to finish the complete reindex, thousands and thousands of files - and this while I had renamed only 148 files. That's not smart.

So the indexing of multimedia contents urgently needs improvement:
The software has to recognize by itself the change of file names, the change of folder names, the change of folder structure and has to reindex only these changes on the fly. The actual behavior of reindexing _everything_ is not smart at all.
