DC++ client/server support

Post by samara8609 »

It would be convenient if the QNAP's could support either a DC++ client or server software. DC++ is used heavily within LAN's and being able to share the files stored on the QNAP through this would be handy

I just came from a lan yesterday. To drag around a file server PC is effort. If the NAS supported DC++ this would be great!!!

People have said "just map the drive to your PC and share that with DC++" well this defeats the purpose of having a second PC. If you want to DL something from another person, it would go through the network, into your network card, be processed by your CPU and then sent back out of your network card and into the NAS network card. This is effectively bottling up two network cards. I want the NAS to handle all the traffic by itself, allowing me to game lag free!

DC++ for the Qnap would be a huuuge help.

Is there no simple way to get DC++ working and operable from the shell or something?

Me too! The QNAP Administrative tools should have both BitTorrent client and Direct Connect client as applications, they are extremely common file sharing programs.

This may be off topic, but I've tried an alternative, trying to use MLDonkey and Sancho, enable the Direct Connect plugin and run it there. But I've had BIG problems this old, un-updated software, trying to get MLDonkey to work properly. MLDonkey Core shuts down from time to time, usually when I try to enable a plugin like BitTorrent or Direct Connect in Sancho or change configuration settings. The latest release is 3.0.2 from Wed, 26 May 2010 on the official MLDonkey page, however the QPKG is version 3.0.0 with the release date: 2009-03-03. I REALLY think it's time for an update here! After all it's 1 year and 5 months since 3.0.0 was released.

Ohh yes. PLEASE support DC++ the same way as you now support BitTorrent.

If your QNAP has an Intel x86 processor, you may want to check this thread about FlexHub: http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=121&t=64492

Post a reply there if you'd like a QPKG for FlexHub.
