Thick volume won't expand to entire free pool space [SOLVED]

Post by TS879Pro » Mon Nov 23, 2020 1:29 am

Hi there! I was trying to find an answer using the search function, but I wasn't quite succesful. So please bear with me if this is a stupid question.

My setup is as follows:
  • TS-879 Pro
    1x RAID5 with 4x12TB
    1x RAID5 with 4x18TB (just freshly upgraded from 4x8TB)
One storage pool spanning both RAID volumes and their entire disk space
One thick volume, which is also supposed to use the entire capacity minus some snapshot reservation.
So my storage pool now shows a total capacity of 81.8 TB, of which only 68.3 TB are being claimed by the (only) volume and a 5% reservation for snapshots. So there is 13.5 TB of unclaimed free capacity, which I cannot use for some reason. The thick volume only expands to exactly 64 TB and says that there is "not enough free space" to expand any further.
Could it rather be that 64 TB is the maximum "numerical" size for a thick volume?

Many thanks for your help!
Johannes

what is the inode size?
if it is 16K, the 64TB is your maximum

you would need to redo the whole volume to change the inode size

Good point, thanks! Where do I find out? I don't remember having set any such value myself.

Ah, found it. Yes, It's 16K :-( So I guess I would need to raze the whole volume? No way to convert it?

OK, I will just create a second volume then to use the new and future space.

Thanks for the clarification!
