Hello,
I'm thinking to extens my current raid and I'd like to hear your oppinion if the following process would be possible.
I have a TS-473 with a RAID5 (3x8TB). Since I understand that its not possible to add more drives to the RAID5 I was wondering if the following process would be possible:
1. get a 4bay extension case
2. add 4x8TB drives in the extension case and create a new RAID5 (4x8TB).
3. move all data to the newly created RAID5
4. remove the old RAID5 (3x8TB) from the main unit and move the drives from the new RAID5 (4x8TB) from the extension unit to the main unit
5. (sell 4bay extension case and 3x8TB)
I think step 1-3 should be no problem, my question would be if I can simply switch the drives from the extension bay in the main unit without any issues.
Thank you very much
Tommy

Re: RAID5 Migration with Extension Case
you have a free bay..unclear why you think you cannot add a drive to the existing raid
just follow the manual on how to expand by adding drives
the rest of that plan does not work..expansion bay disks and internal disks cannot be swapped..also it seems like you have no backups...if not ..start doing them
