Move system files from HDD to SSD?

Post by Benzius »

I hope this is the correct place for such a question.

I've had the TS-451DeU for about a month now. I currently use it almost exclusively as a Plex Media Server. I may do some minor back up stuff with it later.

At first, I only had 4 drives configured as JBOD. My system files were originally installed on Disk1 in the 1st drive bay. I just decided to add a M2 SSD and upgrade the memory from 2GB to 8GB. Why? I saw frequent memory alerts that probably weren't a big deal but, I just want my NAS to be happy and perform as well as possible. My goal is to run the system stuff (OS functions, apps like Plex, etc) from the new SSD instead of the first HDD. I have an idea on how to do that but I'm sure there's probably a better way. I already had to delete a media library of ~8TB because I was dumb and configured the 1st 4 drives incorrectly. I don't want to go through that again. So, my question is, what is the best to reach my goal?

Thanks in advance.

Just for the record, I end up dumping everything and starting from scratch.
