Please help TS-453mini 4 Red drive lights :(

Post by devs101 »

Hi guys, todays not I good day for me :( My TS-453mini has decided to fail with 4 Red drive lights on the display. I've had drives fail previously and swapped them out but never experienced all 4 out and am unsure of what to do or where to start..

Is there any troubleshooting that I can perform or is all the data lost?

Many thanks.

does the nas start at all or is it fully dead? (if that is the case you could be hit by the LPC CLK degradation issue)

Hello mate and many thanks for the input. The nas starts up and lights display. Qfinder does not find it via the network so I'm unsure how to access?

Either try this fix
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=157459

Or swap the NAS
https://www.qnap.com/en/nas-migration?o ... ts-453mini

If you ever get your data back .. start making external backups .. you now know why

Wow okay thank you. So the NAS is basically fried and needs replaced. I'm just reading over the temp fix now and hoping that it will get me into access some data.

Any reasons why this would happen? Thanks.

Am I able to remove the dives and access the data anyhow?

No internal disks cannot be read without extensive knowlage of linux and LVM ... that's why external backups are critical

If this is indeed the LCP_CLK issue, then the linked thread also explains the why (Intel's fault)

Thanks. So my real option is to purchase another compatible NAS and install the drives and hope that they are read as it appears that the fix can not be done to the board of a TS-453mini :(

I really had hoped that I would have been able to recover even some data via attaching the drives to a mac or PC as they contained family videos that are irreplaceable. :(

No it appears the fix can be done .. as I have pointed out in the other thread .. unclear what you are talking about

Irreplaceable files need backups even more .. what was the plan in case of theft or fire ?

Can you please ref where in the thread it has instructions on how to do the fix on a TS-453mini as the only ref I can see is this and it offers no clear fix?...

=====================

I saw the picture online and it seems you don't have the easy connector/pads to attach to.
https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/images/ ... _board.jpg
I also noticed a component next to it looks like a TPM. The picture is too blurry to tell what that is. Look at it and search for that part number.
If it is indeed the TPM, then it's easier to attach the resistor there (IC legs are much larger.)
If it's not the TPM (or a component with the LPC interface), you'll have to solder directly to the tiny SIO legs. Won't be easy, unless you can find some components that the pins connected to.

Assume it uses the same Fintek SIO F71869AD, also checked the IC (TPM ?) next to it, circled in red

No further backup plans in place. Yeah I f'd up and now here seeking help.

it needs to be soldered directly to the chip (Super I/O)

it's not easy .. but that user fixed his issues
