I have a 6 disk NAS. I've upgraded 5 of the disks for a RAID5 array. I want to upgrade the 6th but this was the first I inserted and therefore the system data is on it.
Is it possible for me to upgrade the last disk without losing the rest of the data? If I just take the disk out will it recreate the system data? If it does will it maintain all the data on the RAID5 volume group?
Thanks for any information

Re: Move or recreate System
you should be able to remove the first drive and recreate the apps and default shares after .. just make sure you have full external backups first (internal backups are not backups)

Excellent. Thanks. The default shares are unused and I only have one or two apps installed so hopefully this should be fairly straight forward

Re: Move or recreate System
My concern was that it might contain needed information about the RAID and that I might lose my data. If it's just the pointless default shares which I'd rather just delete if I could then everything will be fine.
Thanks

if you are afraid to lose the data, are you sure you have backups?

I will have backups but I don't want the downtime really
