Migration existing discs to TS-453D

Post by jensebhansen »

Hi all

I'm to migrate my existing TS-219P to a TS-453D. The 219P is currently running with two 3TB drives in RAID1 configuration, and based on this article (https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/knowledg ... he-old-one) I can simply plug the drives into the 453D to migrated data and configuration. And according to this page: https://www.qnap.com/en/nas-migration/? ... on=ts-453d it should be possible to migrate by just follow the instruction in the first link.

But when reading the installation guide for the 453D it states that content on the drives installed will be deleted, so I'm a bit confused here.

I would very much like if I could migrate by simply moving the drives, but I'm also a bit worried, that the content stored will be erased when they are moved to the 453D, so what is the truth?

Kind regards
Jens

it would result in a crippled legacy volume ...so start from scratch

because the disks will have a volume from an old cat1 device (219p) on it...you will miss out on all features (snapshots, block lun, tier, etc) of modern NAS

Ahhh, ok ... make sense. So which method of migrating would you recommend?
