I have a static volume - Raid group 1 with Disk1+Disk2 in RAID1 array - its been like that for years...
I have two new drives that I put in slots 3 and 4 - all 4 drives are on QNAP compatibility list - 4TB each.
Evidently it is not possible to migrate RAID1 array to RAID5 if you are starting with a static volume...
So, I created Storage Pool 2 with Disk3 and Disk 4 - and made it into a thick volume. Background tasks says "RAID Group: Synchronizing RAID Group 2", so, eventually it will be a second RAID1 array?
My thinking is:
- Move all of my files and apps (and anything else that I'm not thinking of) from DataVol1 to DataVol2.
- The Remove DataVol1, freeing up Disk1 and Disk 2
- Somehow enlarge Storage Pool 2 by incorporating newly liberated Disk1 and Disk2
- Perform the RAID migration from RAID 1 to RAID 5
Thank you
