TS-832X Become unreasonsive when attempting to unlock encrypted volume...

Post by rkaycom »

I've been having some issues with this NAS for a while now but its finally come to a head, after a power loss I find myself unable to unlock the main volume, it appears to work at first, the volume goes to 11% unlocked and then tells me the volume file system needs to be checked and then nothing, the NAS GUI becomes unresponsive and nothing happens for hours. Only way to resolve the freeze is to force power cycle the NAS, but now I'm in the same position as before, unable to unlock volume (volume is not set to automatically unlock). I've SSH'd into the NAS and run the following commands;

storage_util --encrypt_pwd pwd= | sed 's/Encrypted passwd is://g' | cryptsetup -v luksOpen /dev/mapper/cachedev1 ce_cachedev1

This "completes" but then attempting to mount the volume with this command;

mount /dev/mapper/ce_cachedev1 /share/CE_CACHEDEV1_DATA -t ext4

NAS freezes. I have most of the data backed up, but there is approx 17TB of stuff that will need to be recovered via the net. Not really looking forward to that solution. Any advice would be welcome.

Issues resolved, was able to recover with Snapshots in the end.
