RAID 1 and data loss

Post by Geodan2110 »

I want to build a RAID 1 setup using a TS-230. But I want to use an existing disk (disk 1) that was part of a RAID 1 setup on another QNAP. Obviously this disk has data on it and I do not want to lose it. We bought a new NAS believing that drive 2 on the old NAS has an issue.

Will the data be erased during RAID setup on the new QNAP?

1. always have backups
2. check if your old and new nas are migration compatible
3. if so, move the drive over and start the nas and immediately do external backups
4. build a raid1 out of the single disk
