Bad blocks reported...highly unlikely.

Post by Noivan »

Hi, I have a customer with a TS-251+, 2 Gb RAM, FW 5.0.0.1986.
He has 2 Samsung EVO 860 2 Tb SSDs in it, mirrored as RAID1.
After a power outage, he logged in, ran a disk health check and the system is reporting 1905 Bad Blocks.
He's had this issue before with spinning disks in it instead of SSDs.
Anybody else have experience with this issue, and how to resolve it? We could throw in a 2Tb SSD, but that's an expensive test.

take the disk out and test it externally

also get that customer a UPS to avoid issues with powerloss

1) Yeah, I guess Magician is my best bet.
2) Car versus transformer. Blew up his APC UPS. And most of the electronics in the house.

Well, turns out Magician was NOT the best bet.
The MZ-77E2T0 was not recognized by Magician as supporting disk testing (which was a surprise).
Looking at the QNAP 'approved' SSD list shows they like the MZ-76Q2T0BW, which is obsolete and not around any more.
Does this mean that only the QVO drives are approved? I'd be surprised, because the QVOs are lesser drives than the EVOs.
Has anyone seen a more up-to-date list of approved SSDs?
