What is causing this Warning?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this... but I get this warning message several times a day:
[Network & Virtual Switch] Failed to connect to the internet. System default gateway "Adapter 1" and all adapters failed to connect to the internet after checking NCSI.
What is the probable cause?
And what does NCSI stand for?
thanks in advance

However, this seems to be a bug on QNAP's part, as I've been getting this warning since 06/29 on all of my 12 QNAPs at various locations.

Still the question remains as to why this is happening with a known good, stable connection to the internet.

Re: What is causing this Warning?
I think whatever servers the NCSI polls, takes too long to respond and triggers that warning...(complains seem to be limited to certain geographical regions, when they happen)
I have disabled this on all my NAS, but one could wireshark it next time it fails

Re: What is causing this Warning?
Hey, I've seen the link to the thread explaining how to disable the service but it is unclear if the NAS will stop advising of downed internet connectivity - will it continue to do this (using other means)?
It is opaque in the interface how any of this works.
My main use case is to receive an email/notification when the internet has previously dropped so I can know when away - I may need to access the NAS remotely.
ps - am I to assume that there is no way to configure this polling to be less sensitive etc?

Re: What is causing this Warning?
why not use an external service like https://uptimerobot.com/ which can ping your router or whatever. I use this for a couple of websites so as soon as the network/http(s) drops - I get an email, when it comes back up I am also notified.
The free service offers increments of 5 minutes I think.
There are plenty of these type of external sites that can help in these type of situations. Some even have a client you run on your local network to a external service that monitors connections between the client and itself. if it doesn't see a connection after a certain time, then the external service will email you.

Re: What is causing this Warning?
That sound like an interesting approach, and I might be naive here, but is giving an outside entity access to your router's I.P. address a security risk or is it already exposed during everyday activities anyway?

Re: What is causing this Warning?
What exactly does "giving access to your IP" mean? All that needs to happen is to allow ICMP responses by your router.

Re: What is causing this Warning?
I don't want my router to respond to any external stimulation if at all possible. The modem is one thing but not the router.

Re: What is causing this Warning?
Not sure how the modem would respond if your NAT device is a different box..but basically forget about this option then ..easy peasy

Re: What is causing this Warning?
Roger that. And, as I said earlier, I am naive or simply ignorant on the purpose of pinging the router from the internet.

It's fine if you don't want your router to respond to ICMP requests..but you cannot have your cake and eat it too

Re: What is causing this Warning?
You give your routers IP address (your public IP address) to any Webserver you visit by default, unless you hide behind a vpn or the dark web.
