Only Total of 2 of 3 Drives in RAID 5

Post by honkin »

I just removed a faulty drive and replaced it with a brand new one. All 3 are WD Red Plus 3Tb. I let the system rebuild and when I looked this morning, there was a message saying the RAID was degraded and indicated one drive had failed. I switched to Storage and checked and no such disk failure exists.

There is something odd, though

I have 3 x 3Tb drives, each one showing 2.73Tb as capacity, yet the full RAID group shows only 5.44Tb in total. It is ONLY totalling 2 of the 3 drives.

The system is RAID 5 with only 1 storage pool and no volumes created just at the moment.

Any thoughts as to why the total would only be showing the total of 2 drives rather than 3?

cheers

That seems to be correct for a RAID 5; the capacity of one drive is needed for the redundancy data.
