Automatic file system check

Post by ultradj83 »

Hello there.

Any ways to make the NAS automatically check file system on boot if it's dirty?

No, but if file system is dirty after boot there are usually two reasons:
NAS was not powered off in a proper way and disky are damaged in any way.
In first case you will find an entry in system log, to prevent such issue a UPS is recommended.
This could also caused if you are running a lot of services and at least one service is not terminated in a proper way.
In second case only replacing the disk(s) will solve the issue.

Anyhow you need to find the reason why filesystem is marked dirty after boot!

Well, fs is dirty after power outage.

But why the NAS doesn't automatically check it on boot before to launch services like any Windows/Linux system does?

Ask QNAP why they didnt add such an option to QTS. 8)
Anyhow for some people its may be more important that services start after an outage.
During filesystem check the services are stopped.
As said before: against power outages an UPS is the outstanding solution!
If data is important using an UPS is mandatory.

A file system check could take many hours...probably a concern for many people if they cannot access the files for that long after bootup

So you would have threads like , "Why does QNAP need to check the FS after boot...?!?!?"

Get a UPS, check the FS once and be done with it !
