Problem after storage full read only

Post by lckenny »

I have a TS-431 with 4 x WD IronWolf 4TB drives in it, RAID-5, all that are relatively new and in good shape as of yesterday. There is just one large volume.

The volume has become full, and dropped into read only mode.

I've seen this happen before, and followed the instructions:
  1. Power off and eject disks
  2. Boot up, SSH in and log in with admin / admin credential
  3. Insert the disks
  4. Execute storage_util --sys_startup
  5. Execute storage_util --sys_startup_p2
  6. Delete some files, run e2fsck, reboot
I'm stuck on step 5 though. In the past this has taken maybe 30 seconds to execute and return to prompt. I ran it last night and left it about 30 minutes, with no progress forced a shutdown with the idea of rebooting into the GUI. which I left for about an hour and it did not come up. Couldn't SSH in either.

So I've repeated the procedure and it has looked like this for 10 hours now:

Image

Green status light is flashing, amber network light flashing, disk lights flash for a bit then stop, then flash again, all 4 at once. Occasionally one will flash on its own for a bit.

Any ideas on what might be going on here, or how to resolve this problem, would be greatly appreciated.

Did you open a ticket - what was the outcome? I have the same problem - QNAP support are working with the developers to solve the problem which they claim is not a problem affecting many, just a few like me? There are so many I have uncovered on this forum, I'm still searching for the solution.
