TS673-A Networking Setup
Hi All,
Currently have my system hooked up to 2.5G switch to witch my 1gbps desktop (haven't updated network card in my desktop yet) and 1gbps fiber modem are both connected.
I ran some tests and when I copy files from my desktop and download files from internet through desktop directly to network drive the 1gbps connection seems shared between two tasks. (I would've thought these would be split over separate 1gbps connections).
In order to make these two independent i should download directly with NAS instead and the file copy will fully take over 1gbps connection from desktop?
Thanks!

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
Does the NAS show up as connected via 2.5GbE ?
otherwise the 2.5GbE switch could be the culprit (consult it's manual)..the router should not come into play at all here..so forget about it

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
I'm confused about the scenario... Are files being downloaded from the internet by the PC to a location on the NAS at the same time as the PC is copying files (not at all sure from where to where)?

1. downloading files through pc to a location on NAS
2. copying files from same desktop pc to a location on NAS at the same time

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
So in effect you have 1 download to the PC from the internet and 2 uploads from the PC to the NAS happening (one the file copy; one the data that has been downloaded from the net).
You only have a 1 gbps card in the PC so (assuming perfect full duplex operation) you can upload 1 gbps to the NAS and download 1 gbps from the NET. The upload would probably be a mix of the file copy and the download.

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
Yeah figured that my pc card is probably an overall limitation
I'm waiting for intel 10gbps X550-T2 to come back in stock locally and will snag one when I have the chance in October.

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
Better still go for a QNAP QXG-10G1T in both your PC and NAS and get a 10GB switch I have that on my setup with a USW Aggregation Switch from UniFi.
The QNAP QXG-10G1T supports 10Gbps/5Gbps/2.5Gbps/1Gbps/100Mbps as well.

Re: TS673-A Networking Setup
Thanks!
I've hard that 550-t2 is probably the best bet for 10gbps card since it has a lower cpu utilization vs others.
Did anyone compare official QNAP 10gbps card vs intel chipsets (540,550)?
