Shrink Thick Volume not working

Post by durchgedreht »

Hi,
I have a TS-453Pro (4 Bay) and have the problem I cannot shrink my Volume.
Disk 1 and 2 are configured as Raid 1 with Thick Volume 1 and cover the system.
Disk 3 and 4 are configured as Raid 1 with Thick Volume 2 with a share for the Time Machine Backup.

Volume 2 also covered other stuff that I removed, so would like to shrink the Volume 2 from 7.27TB to approx 2TB. It is 100% Disk Space right now and also 100% of the Raid 1 storage Pool.

doc on resizing I used:
https://docs.qnap.com/operating-system/ ... 4040A.html

When I follow the documentation I can select resize, but the "Resize Volume Wizard" only allows to select values from 7301.50 to 7301.50 (so no shrinking!).
It also shows capacity: 7.13TB (correct!) and used 149GB (correct). So there is plenty of space left! Is there a defrag or anything I need to run upfront?

Model. TS-453Pro (4 Bay)

No, should work. At least at my TS-473A with v5.0.1.2145 shrinking is possible:

But here Datavol2 resides in same pool (4x2TB in raid5).

Regards

Edit: do you really use pools (thick volume) or is that a static volume?

I have exactly the same problem with my TS 230 - two hdd, thick volumes - and when I want to shrink one (that is not full) it says: minimum value same as maximum.

Try the following: convert to thin, shrink, convert to thick again.
At least in one firmware there is a bug for resizing (shrinking) a thick volume.
Cant remember which build is affected.

Anyhow: a backup is mandatory! Volume resize processes can end in an unwanted outcome!
