Reported vs actual data usage is invalid: 10 TB missing

Post by hermanc »

On my TS473A is running QTS Hero latest FW. There are 2 pools, one for the system with 2 SSDs and one for data with 4 HDs.

The data pool has 4 x 7,2 TB storage = 29 TB total. As raid 5 takes 1 HD space away, there should be +/- 21 TB left for data. Which is reported as such.

a) Overprovisioning for the pool takes 4% which is +/- 1 TB
b) Snapshot reserved space is 1 TB
c) In the various shared folders there is 7 TB of data (thick) in various block sizes
d) Not assigned space is 2 TB.

My server reports that the assigned space is 19 TB, and almost full, but if you do the math summing a) to c) this does not add up and should be +/- 9 TB. Where did my 19 -/- 9 = 10 TB go?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Hmm... how much did you allocate for the thick shared folders? Not how much data there's on them, but what's reserved.

Apologies, I should have been more accurate. These amount of data are the reserved/assigned amounts, not the actual data usage which is less.

How much is actually used for the snapshots?. Reserved only means that the snapshots get a guaranteed space of 1TB until they can be reused again for volumes/other snapshots

Another candidate would be deleted shares where the data was not deleted (orphaned on the pool)

There are 5 shares with snapshots. Total space is summed 3.8 TB. So still a lot missing here (10 -/- 4 = 6 TB).

I have never tried to remove a shared folder (directly on pool space) on QuTS.

So there can be orphaned shares in volume space on QTS, not sure this could happen on QUTS.

what does

Code: Select all

zpool list
say ?
