check disk for USB storage

Post by enri1357 »

In my living area, the power often go down and up several times a month. Usually, if I am using windows, there should be some check disk for drive. For internal storage in my NAS, there is also check file system integrity. What about external USB drive? I am not able to find a way to check the attached USB drive. Any suggestion?

I've not seen a way to check an external drive. I've only done this from the CLI with fsck.

I think you should create a support ticket with QNAP and suggest a GUI to do this instead. :geek:

Could you tell me how you do it by fsck for NTFS? I am ok with SSH if it could be done. Thank you

I mentioned UPS because you said your power went down frequently ..... sudden power loss isn't good for the raid ...

Checking NTFS drives in Linux is not well supported. Whilst there do exist utilities like ntfsfix, they are not as comprehensive as running chkdsk on a Windows system. It's much safer to check the drive in Windows than with software that doesn't understand the file-system properly.

If you wanted to check an EXT partition - no problem. I can check my USB drives without issue as they only contain EXT4 partitions. ;)
