Unable to mount or recover Volume after power lost.

Post by jdgszorro »

Hi all,
this morning after a power lost, my TS453A with firmware 4.2.4, start to fail. The main volume, Volume 1, was unmounted and when I try
to check it, I get an error "pool 1 Error examinning VOL 1" at 1% (after 10´15 secs). :S

I've openned a ticked but I really need to recover and mount de raid volume as soon as possible. :(

Can someone help me ?

Thanks.

SSH in and check

cat /proc/mdstat

and get in the process of getting a UPS asap (and doing backups!)

What operating system do you use?

TVS-872XT-i5-16GB with 6*ST12000VNZ008 in RAID 6.
Backed up to a stack of a half dozen 'cold' external 12TB and 8TB HDDs - please back up your data, RAID is not the same as a backup!

Formerly TVS-463 with 4*WD60EFRX in RAID5, planning to reuse as an additional backup destination in the new year.
All protected by an APC SMT750VA UPS - protect your NAS from bad power!

Okay I'll walk you through the first bit.

If you use Windows, you'll need to download Putty http://www.putty.org/

Once you've got Putty open let me know, my windows10 machine is being super slow.

Okay then type in/copy

Code: Select all

cat /proc/mdstat
into the ssh command line and hit enter - this will tell you the status of your array and give you an output, please post it here in the code wrapper like this:

Code: Select all

Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid10] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [multipath]
md1 : active raid5 sda3[0] sdc3[2] sdd3[3] sdb3[1]
      17551702848 blocks super 1.0 level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [4/4] [UUUU]

md256 : active raid1 sdd2[3](S) sdc2[2](S) sdb2[1] sda2[0]
      530112 blocks super 1.0 [2/2] [UU]
      bitmap: 0/1 pages [0KB], 65536KB chunk

md13 : active raid1 sda4[0] sdd4[25] sdc4[24] sdb4[1]
      458880 blocks super 1.0 [24/4] [UUUU____________________]
      bitmap: 1/1 pages [4KB], 65536KB chunk

md9 : active raid1 sda1[0] sdd1[25] sdc1[24] sdb1[1]

That's mine, and it's a healthy array.

Okay I'm a little confused so I'm going to do some reading up for you now - you've got [3/3] [UUU] which means 3 healthy drives in your r5 array. Hopefully someone more capable than me like dolbyman can help whilst I'm reading about MDADM (qnap raid)
dolbyman wrote:SSH in and check

(dolbyman I've quoted you just to make sure you see OP's cat /proc/mdstat output, sorry!)

EDIT: Op in the meantime please run the following Hard drive smart test by copying the following code:

Code: Select all

getsysinfo hdsmart 1
and change 1 to 2 and 3 like this

Code: Select all

[~] # getsysinfo hdsmart 1

OK. Thanks

The problem is that md1 is unmounted and when I try to check the system file integrity from web storage manager. I get an error. Pool 1 error checking and can't mount.

Waitwaitwait don't copy the second box of code, just the first. Increment the number each time it performs and output.

Also I don't know why it won't mount. You can manually unmount and mount a RAID array using SSH but you really don't have to have to do that.

GOOD[~] # getsysinfo hdsmart 2

But may be the solution is to use "e2fsck" to force the validation ?
e2fsck -f /dev/md1

I've seem it in a previous post. But ..... I'm not sure and I don't want to lose the data.
