How to replace both disks in RAID1 ?

Post by ik3umt »

My 2TB seagate barracudas (not for nas) are running 8 years+ into 419P+
First disk has 21200 Reallocated_Sector_Ct count

I want to replace both with new pair of 2TB (perhaps WD red)

I have not found an official document on how to replace them,

A unofficial guide explain how to replace a problematic disk in a not yet failed array:

Reboot system without the desired disk to let system believe to have faulty array.
Reboot again with new disk in place and wait the array to be rebuilt.

This for a single disk
Should i repeat the procedure for second disk, once first one has been replaced and assured array is rebuilt ??

What about to replace different brand disks ?

Any other suggestion ?

Thanks

if you just replacing disks with the same size ..just hotswap them and wait for the rebuild to finish, to swap the next one

follow the guide in the manual if you want to swap the drives with larger ones

both processes do NOT require rebooting
