Anyone tried the TS-809U-RP with the Deskstar 7K2000 2TB disks?

Has this Deskstar model been tested throughly to be compatible with the TS-809U-RP?
I encountered raid issues with WD2002FYPS and was not about to bother with firwarmware upgrades, so I sent them all back.
Trying to find a alternate 2TB model that I know will work properly.

After several read write errors, disk ejects, and bad sector messages (only at HDD5), exchanged the WD-disk 2 times with new ones(04.05G04) and still same faults came up. I'm now using following firmware for:
TS509: 3.1.2-1001T
HDD 1...4 WD2002FYPS: 04.05G04
HDD 5 WD2002FYPS: 04.05G05

Before asking to QNAP if they could post it, I've found the firmware on the web. I had no response from WD... yet...
Got this firmware from: 04.05G05
[100518]; NEW LINK FOR FIRMWARE:04.05G05

I used my desktop PC for firmware update (as DOS I've used DR-DOS 7.03 which already installed in mult. boot setup on my PC), it's simple and done in couple of minutes. Just follow instructions:
See the attached regarding a disk drive firmware revision change for the WD RE4 WD2002FYPS drives, from fw 04.05G04 to 04.05G05.
This version of the utility requires that the disk drive be attached to a motherboard SATA controller. This version of the utility requires that you boot to DOS.
To run the utility, ensure that the files 0405G05.exe and 0405G05.bin are in the same subdirectory, and type 0405G05.

Image

Before rebuilding, do a complete disk scan of the corrupted disk(s) in "Volume Management", than the rebuild will start itself.

The TS-509 has successfully scanned (in my case HDD5) and rebuild the array.
Maybe it's worth trying for you too. I'll get back on this later with results (uptime of raid5).
[091026] System Up Time: 3Day 6Hour 28Minute(s) (Raid 5: 59h46m) and UDMA_CRC_Error_Count remains the same.
[100524] See also post "Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:40 pm".
I still had this parameter, "199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count" (S.M.A.R.T. log), which was gaining value (probably due to bad sata controler series). I've RMA'ed the NAS, back in February, and no problems since then.
[100907] Updated every time to latest FW (now; 3.3.2 build 0819T) since release of Twonky-QPKG. no problems encountered(!)...

Hi dnz16,
We've determined that it's hardware issue with your TS-509 Pro for the HDD drop-out issue. Our tech. support will contact you shortly about the replacement process.

I have a 439pro with two WD20EADS (Western Digital) drives. Drive one drops out of the Raid 1 array I've setup, at least twice now. Each time I've Scanned for Bad Blocks, Rebooted and it's back working after a short rebuild. I'm curious if the TS509 hardware issue may be the same as the problem I'm experiencing?? I've also suspected that the 439pro may have loose drive connections since both times it failed seemed to be shortly (within a day) after I've had to move the box (shutdown of course).

This is with a Qnap 409 PRO - 2.1.4 Build 0318 (now using 3.1.0 Build 0708T) - ST31000340NS.

No read / write errors or bad blocks. I also swapped the unit with a newer sata controller still no luck. Most of the time "drive x plug out" happens after a reboot or a power failure.

Hi,
Spc337, i got the same problem, even though my HD dropout havnt been after a shutdown or after af move of the Qnap.

My 3 weeks old Qnap 639 pro (firmware 3.1.1) , have now lost connection with the same disk twice,
while the Qnap had been powered on for a day or 2.
Im running raid 5, and its disk 6 that has the problem.

Im now running a scan for bad blocks on the HD6:

Disk Model Capacity Status Bad Blocks Scan SMART Information
Drive 1 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 2 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 3 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 4 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 5 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 6 WDC WD15EADS-00R6B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Bad blocks scanning:(41%) Stop Good

The Hds is also only 3 weeks old.

I can see the disk that has the problem is the only one with a different number.
Can it be the problem or is it the NAS?

Im thinking about getting the HD 6 switched with a new one where I brought it,
even though I dont think there is anything wrong with the HD.
Otherwise im thinking about getting the Qnap swapped for a new one
at the store where i brought it.

or should I try to upgraded to firmware 3.1.2 beta ?

Hi murda,
For your TS-409 Pro & Seagate HDD plug out issue after shutdown, please use the Online Support Form to let our tech. support to check the system message for further troubleshooting.

Hi muggi,
For your TS-639 Pro & WD HDD question, please update to our v3.1.2 official firmware as soon as possible.

You can get the firmware here:

I will do that if this happens again because after a reboot a Qnap engineer can't help me because the raid is rebuilding again.

Hi Jason - What are we losing by installing the new firmware? Does disabling NCQ impact the performance? Is this a work around for a problem with the Drive itself (i.e. does the drive not implement NCQ correctly?) or is this a temporary fix until QNAP gets NCQ working correctly with Western Digital Drives??

Thanks

Hi Jason, even though I allready upgraded to 3.1.2, I would like to know the same as spc337!

Back to the firmeware, 4 hours after I upgraded the Qnap to 3.1.2 last night, it lost disk 6 again!!

Im now returning the disk 6 today to the local shop and getting the WD15EADS-00P8B0 instead of the R6B0,
to see if that helps.
If that dosn't help i'll return the Qnap box for a new one, as I know the local shop got another Qnap 639 on stock.

After that i'm out off options

Thanks

Hi again,
The local computer store now confirmed over email that he recieved news WD hds.
They are number WD15EADS-00S2B0,
I guess because the number is higher than the other one im returning, thats its newer production batch and hopefully a newer firmware or whatever.

Anyone have any experience with WD15EADS-00S2B0 ?

So then hopefully later today i got a fully working Qnap with:

Drive 1 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 2 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 3 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 4 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
Drive 5 WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0 1397.26 GB Ready Scan now Good
and the new:
Drive 6 WDC WD15EADS-00S2B0 1397.26 GB

instead of:
Drive 6 WDC WD15EADS-00R6B0 01.0 1397.26 GB

So if that dosn't help, next step for me is to swap the Qnap for a another.

Hi,
NCQ does not affect the performance in NAS.
Please see this post for the comparison chart.

Seems like you can find a lot of "HORROR" stories about the Wd 1,5 tb green editions.
a bit of info on the 1,5 tb
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-re ... 77707.html

but anyone have experience with an alternative, the samsung 1,5 gb green edition instead.
I think my local computer store would swap the six WD hds to 6 x samsung instead if that would matter to
the problems ?

I have six 1,5Tb Samsungs (SAMSUNG HD154UI 1AG0) in a TS-639 Pro for a bit over a month now with no problems. (Altough I think they make a bit more noise than the 1TB WD green I also have)

Hi,

I own a TS 439 Pro. I installed 3 WD15EADS, several weeks ago I got the read error on slot 1, so I formatted the HDD and rebuilt the RAID 5. Due to this thread I updated to the beta FW with the NCQ fix and later to the official version (3.1.2 Build 1014T). NAS ssemed working perfectly.

Yesterday I started my PC which is (SMB-) connected to the NAS. NAS was powered on, but drives in powersafe. After the drive spin-up, again an error occured. Again the Slot 1 drive got another raw read error (3 by now).

May be the fix isn't working ?!?!

Drives:
1) WDC WD15EADS-00R6B0 01.0, FW 01.00A01 (the bad one)
2) WDC WD15EADS-00R6B0 01.0, FW 01.00A01
3) WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 01.0, FW 01.00A01
