Time to migrate volumes

Post by spangle »

HI

I am planning a migration from a TS-859u-rp (4.2.6 bd 20190730) with 8 disks installed to a TS-873u-rp.

8x 2TB Hitachi disks in RAID10 8TB volume ( 4.8 TB of data)

is there a rule of thumb for the time taken to migrate the volume in the new NAS , once the new NAS is powered up to when users can access data

Thank you in advance

no migration (from ..to?) should take place ..and it would be available immediately

make sure that you are not using a legacy volume ..as that is a dead end (features and expandability)

the nas was installed in 2011, so before qts 4,
How can I tell which type of volume it is?
what options do I have if it is legacy?

probably legacy then

best to start from scratch transfering the data over to new disks

okay
don't want the expense of new disks as well as new nas,
so either
1. just stay at legacy and migrate or
2. full backup to external source, then move disks and then create new storage pool, and restore.

thank you for your help

if you don't have a full backup already, time to invest in a backup strategy, as RAID is NOT a backup, you will eventually lose your data

Data is safe we do have an offsite backup to another NAS, but we need to confirm how long it would take to restore the whole 4.8 TB, in the busy office.

Plan to do a local backup to my spare NAS from customers NAS to confirm timing.

may be a weekend job or over Christmas break to switch to storage pool from Legacy Volume
