TS-453A RAID1 bad blocks: what to do?

Post by DeMaat »

Hi QNAP Community!

Need some help with the following. I have a TS-453A with two disks mounted in RAID1 (mirroring) configuration. Since a couple of days I'm getting a warning highlighting possible bad blocks on disc 2. Did a disk scan, here are the results:

Warning 2019/09/30 21:24:56 System 127.0.0.1 localhost [Host: Disk 2] Bad Blocks Scan completed. 3 bad block(s) found.
Abnomal Sector Count: 3
The disk was detected not to be in the best status.
Disk model: WDC WD40EFRX-68WT0N0 82.00A82 (Western Digital Red, about 3 years old)

What to do here? Simply replace Disk 2 with a new one?
As I'm running RAID1 I should not run into any data loss issues, correct?

Thanks upfront for you help and advise! Best, de Maat

Hi Dolbyman,

That's what I'll do then. The good news is the disk is failing *just* within Western Digital's 3 year warranty period. The bad news is the WD Red disk (marketed to be designed for NAS usage) is failing within 3 years... :DD
