Drive disconnecting repeatedly.

Post by DataMeister »

We have a TS-563 which has been running fine for the last 5 years until yesterday. About 4 hours after the RAID scrubbing successfully finished the unit started beeping and showed the RAID was degraded and disk 4 wad disconnected (16:26:49). We pulled the drive out and ran a disk check on it without seeing any problem. We put the drive back in which reconnected and the RAID successfully rebuilt.

Everything ran fine during the day until about 16:06:21 when the same problem happened. RAID degraded and then Disk 4 disconnected. The same procedure was performed and the RAID successfully rebuilt.

Next day same thing around 18:47:40 the RAID degraded and Disc 4 disconnected.

We don't have a spare drive in stock to test. What is the most likely scenario here. A bad HDD or a bad NAS unit? If we have to replace the NAS, is there a new model that could swap in the old drives as is, or would we have to recreate the sharing setup and copy over all the data?

coukd be a broken disk or broken nas..swap disk (buy one) to test

if it's the nas, see the migration guide to choose a new one
