automatic RAID 5 recovery after disk failure in old TS 659?

Post by MichaelS2 »

hello,
in my old 659 a HDD showed an error. the system is 9-10 years old.

As I did not see any button for 'disk replacement' in the disk maintenance section, I just removed the damaged disk and replaced with a similar WD Black 2 TB disk.

Should the system automatically rebuild the RAID 5 ?

the disk exchange was three days ago and the system is still degraded und the red status light blinking.

best regards,
Michael

if the array can be repaired, a hotswap(while running) should have caused a rebuild

unless there is more disks with issues

there should habe been only one damaged disk (according to the disk status report).

how long might a rebuild take? several days?

depends on disk size and throughput of the other drives. and what sync speed setting is chosen (sync priority, medium, service priority)

can you reach the NAS via SSH ?

Re SSH - I am not sure; I am not famililiar with SSH.

but strange - when I switch to the respective new disk in HDD Smart, the whole admin surface exits. I am also not sure whether the exchanged disk has the correct disk type (should be EXT4?).

How do I find out more (in the admin surface)? firmware version 3.2.3

it's degraded (md0), but not rebuilding

Pull the drive again, format it, then stick it back in and see if the rebuild starts

if that adapter supports the full drive size (some older ones cap out at 2 or 4 TB)

doesn't matter whats on the disk after, you just want to clean it to be introduced as new drive on the NAS
Locked

Return to “System & Disk Volume Management”
