Running Mysql from M.2

Post by stephensaid »

Hi guys,
First post here although own 3 Qnaps.

I'm planning to install another at a client but wish to use MySql as backend for a custom point of sale system which we shall move to this qnap. Thinking of buying tvs-473e. Feel free to suggest alternatives. This is a small business... I think this device is already overkill for him.

Does it make sense to install/run MySql DB from an M.2 to maximise speed?

Since we'll also be having a raid 6 setup, I'd love the DB to be backuped to the storage volume on this raid.

Could someone advice how to go about setting such a setup if viable?

Thanks
Stephen

You'll need two M.2 disks here (as RAID1). When Installing these as the first storage pool it becomes the system disc and holds all apps by default. So the MySQL (or more precise MariaDB) is stored there as well.

You can plan jobs to export the data to the RAID6, I'd have trouble calling it a backup, as it's not external on seperate media.

Ic. You're right about the backup thing.
We'll back it up to some other computer for the time being but the idea is to setup yet another offsite qnap where we will replicate everything.

Thanks
