Smart Fan almost killed my disks.

Hi All.
Recently I paid attention that the Fan system works terrible, in "Self-defined temperature" mode with below 39C for low speed and 45C for higher speed it worked randomly ..... When the whole system is cold ~35-37C it do noise with fan , and when the system arrives to 42C is stays on low speed.
SO , I switched it to fully auto mode " Monitor the temperature of the system , disks and CPU and adjust the fan speed accordingly and automatically" - sounds great ....
BUT Today and yesterday I got several messages , that the disks crossed 42C to 43C. I thought , that 43C is not so high , but when I opened the NAS's GUI I found : system on 50C and both disks on 48C :| :S and the fan sounds on lowest speed.....
I changed it again to semi automatically and the temperature fall to 35C..

How can I check to which maximal temperature the disks have warmed up.

These new disks with only 5 days power on.... WD-RED pro 6T.
NAS TS-431

Thank you in advance.

"Almost killed" might be a bit alarmist. ;)

The manufacturer specs allow for operation in temperatures up-to 65°C (note: this is the ambient temperature - not the drive temperature which will be even hotter). Pro drives do run hotter than regular drives.

You could try to set the fan speed manually to an appropriate speed, that keeps your discs cool and is not to loud.
