TS-410 Volume size Question.

Post by stsimadi »

Hi All.
I have a QNAP TS-410 that running 4.2.6. i have had 4 x 1 TB Disk RAID 5 but the storage space it wasn't enouth for me.
So i buy 4x4TB Disk and i start to replace then one by one.
In a forum i read that the TS-410 is supporting volumes below of 4 TB. and the most propuble way to work a TS410 with 4 TB disk is to mirror 1 with 2 and 3 with 4.
So before start to play with raid expantion i move all my data to external disk.
After that i delete the volume and i expanded the reaid group (just to see if it works and let me to create multible 4 TB volumes on this RAID Group.)
When raid expantion comleted, start a raid sync and after that i see a volume for 10TB on my QNAP.

Code: Select all

[~] # df
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/ramdisk 32.9M 17.0M 15.9M 52% /
tmpfs 32.0M 412.0k 31.6M 1% /tmp
/dev/sda4 371.0M 359.4M 11.6M 97% /mnt/ext
/dev/md9 509.5M 191.5M 317.9M 38% /mnt/HDA_ROOT
/dev/md0 10.7T 5.1G 10.7T 0% /share/MD0_DATA
tmpfs 1.0M 0 1.0M 0% /mnt/rf/nd
The question is: Can i trust this 10TB Volume or it will crash when i start to put data back?

the NAS supports volumes up to 16TB and they can be expanded to that limit (with the process of the "onebypne" GUI)

on old CAT1 units you cannot remove the system volume, so you would need to start from scratch (if you want to remove the volume and not expand it)
