Not Enough Devices

Post by MongarEric »

I have three NAS boxes. The newer main one backs up to the two older boxes. One of the older boxes is a TS-659 pro II. I got bigger drives for the main box, and then shifted the old drives to the 659. Created a RAID 5 array, then backed up the data again from the main box again. About 12.5 TB was backed up over four and a half days without issue. Then a few days after the initial back up finished, I got notification that the scheduled backup failed. Look at the 659, and the RAID is down. Hit recover, says not enough devices. All drives say good in SMART summary. Performed rapid test on all 6 drives, no errors. Figured I should run the complete test next.

Just posting here to confirm I'm following the right troubleshooting steps. If complete test finds an issue, I will replace the drive(s). What happens if the tests say all drives are fine? Why does the system report all disks are "Good", yet claims there's not enough of them to recover the RAID?
