Just got a new TVS-672x.6 bays, 2 m.2 slots. I haven't populated the m.2 slots yet, but I've put 6 x 6tb WD RED Pros in.
I want be able to set up a bunch of shares for individual Windows users, as well as a Windows Server 2012 backup and do snapshots.
Traditionally, on smaller NASs, I would just RAID5 the whole thing and have done with it, but I've never used snapshots before.
I'm looking for comments on my best constellation for this rig. I can pop the m.2 slots if necessary.

Re: Disk configuration advice wanted
you system and disks are already setup..not sure what you need to know...ssd caxhe or tier does not do much for sequential tasks ..so no need to change or add anything
snapshots are good to have, but do not replace backups (same with raid) ..so don't forget external backups
also make sure you do not expose your nas to wan
thats it

No, my system disks are NOT already set up. I have installed nothing. No storage pools, no RAIDs...right now it's JBOD.

sp delete everything and use either raid5 or 6
you don't want (pooled) single disks or spanning jbod
