Adding 2 disks to an existing raidgroup

Post by MR.BeanBag »

Hello everyone I've read this document: https://docs.qnap.com/nas-outdated/4.3/ ... groups.htm about adding disks to an existing raidgroup. This is what it says:

With this function, new drive members can be added to a RAID group. This option is supported for RAID 5 and RAID 6 drive configurations.

Follow these steps to add the hard disk drive(s) to a RAID group:
1. Go to "Storage Manager" > "STORAGE" > "Storage Space".
2. Double click a storage pool to bring up the Storage Pool Management page.
3. Select a RAID group and click "Manage" > "Add Hard Drive".
4. Select hard disk drive(s) from the list to add to the chosen RAID group and click "Apply".
5. Please note that all data on the selected hard drive(s) will be erased. Click "Yes" if you are certain about this.
6. The chosen hard disk drive(s) are added to the selected RAID group.

I'm not sure about step 5. Does this mean all disks will be erased or the new disks?

So for me, I want to add 2 disks to an existing raidgroup consisting of 3 disks. Will all 5 disks be formatted or only the 2 new ones?

You are quoiting an outdated document (see the link)

And the question has been asked many many times and is poorly worded, the added hard drives will be erased, not the existing RAID

As always before such endeavors (and at all times) have external backups ready.
