The last couple of QTS Firmware drops are warning about use of the default admin account. This is fair enough, but I think I may have hit an issue with Snapshot Replicas.
Following QNAP's advice, I have created a second admin account (on both my QNAP NAS - source and target) and granted it SSH permissions in addition to default Admin.
After updating Shared Folder permissions, I set about amending my snapshot replica jobs to use the new admin ID on the (snapshot replica) target NAS
I amended one job and did a test run - it failed immediately. Hmm..
I created a new replica job and it failed also after approx. 20%. Hmm...x2
Digging into the filesystem a little, it looks like the snapshots are owned by admin, with a group of administrators and the permissions are 755
My questions therefore are:
What do I need to do to get snapshots working with the new non-default admin AND ensure that the existing snapshots are retained until their expiration (i.e. I don't want to zap all current snapshots and start again)?
Can I chown the snapshot directories? I imagine this might be fraught with danger unless I also do that for the base volumes...
Can I export the snapshots, re-import them under the new non-default Admin account (and then remove up the existing default admin-owned snapshots once all OK)
....
I haven't yet raised a ticket with QNAP, but I suspect it might be necessary.

This should be your first step as QNAP will need to fix this with a firmware update I suppose.

Wow, thank you so much. I was about to create a second admin-account and disable the old one. I have just setup my TS-453D with snapshot and everything.
In the meantime, how are you dealing with all the different rights, do you have any guide or have your paused your effort while waiting for this to be fixed?
