Swapping HDDs with SSDs back and forth

Post by wiggaz »

Hello,
I have a fully functional QNAS 453D with 4 drives installed in RAID5.
I'd like to try and see how some SSDs that I have lying around the house do (as single units or RAID0, I don't care).
Since I want to put the 4 main disks back, what should I do?
If I turned off the NAS, removing the 4 main disks, and then inserting the SSDs, this would trigger a new setup?
Then when I'm done, I could turn off and put back the 4 main disks and go back to how it was before, as if nothing had happened ?

And if I wanted to test the new QTS 5 on top of the SSDs, would there be problems when I reinsert the 4 main disks?
Sorry for the many questions.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

All settings and os files are on the disks...so if you eventually stick the HDDs back in there, it should come back up the way it used to

Even if I upgrade it to QTS 5?
Can I go back to version 4.5.4 contained on the 4 main disks?

The DOM is always allowed to be higher..otherwise migration across units wouldn't be possible
