Internal Copy on a TS201

Post by Linalool »

Hi,
I have tried searching but the search function is not working properly (can only see the first page of results).

I am trying to copy some files from QMultimedia to the Public folder on my TS201. I have read the FAQ and cannot find a way to do this in the Web File Manager. Looks like the TS201 does not support SCP so I cannot use WinSCP.

Can anyone tell me how to internally copy files on a ts201?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Matt

Which version of firmware do you use?
Just try the web file manager with firmware 3.1.0, and use the function of Move/Copy.
You can refer to the below picture.

Alex

Hi Alex,
I am using 2.3.0 Build 0825T. Thats the latest firmware on the qnap website. Could not find 3.1.0.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,

I got the same unit (TS-201) and I'm looking for a better way todo this as well.

What I'm doing right now, using the same firmware as you are btw, is to FXP inbetween the folders. From one drive to the other, not using raid so got two drives in "Single Drive" mode.

I average around 10-11MB/sec doing this and it should be a lot faster internally imo.

Could it be faster to simply do it in the console?

Keeping this thread alive.

There MUST be someone from QNAP support who knows how to do this.

Linalool you can connect to NAS through telnet using a software like PuTTY.

Hi there,

Because TS-101/201 doesn't support SSH, therefore, you can't use WinSCP to connect to the NAS.

For internal copy via console in TS-201, please enable Telnet through the web administration, and install the telnet application (for example: Putty, NetTerm) on your PC.

You can use either the "mv"(move) or "cp"(copy) command, for example:
# mv /share/Public/ToMove/ /share/Qmultimedia/
This will move the folder "ToMove" (and all the sub-folders and files within it) to Qmultimedia

# cp /share/Public/xxx.yyy /share/Qmultimedia/
This will copy the xxx.yyy file from Public to Qmultimedia

p.s. Sorry about the typo Alex made, there is no v3 firmware for TS-101/201, sorry for any inconvenience it has caused.

BR,

James

James, good point.

The internal mv/cp command is a good way to move or copy files between folders, yet it would be nice if someone could help be a little more.

the problem is that I need the SSH alive to keep mv/cp command alive too. If I close the session then the command will be dropped. This caused me trouble when I spend multiple hours moving tera-byte folder.

Is there a way to keep the mv/cp command alive even after the user log off?

Since the command is issued at user level, if u close the connection, any related command will be terminated.
