[HELP - RAID MIGRATION FAILED - TS-409 PRO]

Post by raj_begood »

I previousy has 2 x 750G drives being run as Raid 0 - where there was 1 mirror, I added a 3rd 750G harddrive to expand the capacity. The 409 Pro then started the migration process and after about 15 hours now says

Code: Select all

In degraded mode, read only, disk 1 failed
the shares are no longer accessible. I will have more info later,

- Any advice how this can be rectified ?
- Will the data still be there?
- What are my support options ?

I also have the TS-409 Turbo. It had 2 750 GB drives setup as RAID 0. Yesterday I added 2 more 750 GB drives. I attempted to migrate to RAID 5 using 3 disk with the 4th as a spare. Some time after I went to bed, it failed. The error was the same as yours. When I rebooted the system it started doing a rebuild. The rebuild is still running. If there is a solution please let me know.

I haven't got that message.....yet I hope. I'm still waiting. I logged off the % completed status page yesterday. Does anyone know how I log back into that page? I hear it ticking away, but its' not on the network (as a share) and theres nothing in the logs....so hope it is still migrating !

Hi Mate

Try restart your NAS and it will auto rebuild the previous RAID level to normal.

ONce the rebuild finished, you could try the RIAD migration to RIAD 5 again.

The smallnetbuilder review test the same situation you have and describe extremely detail in the article. You could check here

Try connect to your NAS with the QNAP finder and see what's the status now before your restart.

Cheers

Hi Ron,

The finder shows the box online and I can access all the online functionality. However I can't get through to network shares. Wreckon I should just reboot?

Hi Gary

Please reboot to let your RIAD status back to normal.

Hey,

I rebooted. It seems to be thrashing around. However the indicator light is now flashing green (was flashing red before reboot). The online disk staus for each of the 4 discs is 'good'. i.e. it doesn't mention a problem with any one disk.

I kicked off the migration again and now I see consistency - The indicator light is flashing green-red and the online status is 'migrating x%'. So this is matching up.

Cheers Ron - I'll let you know how this goes...

Gary.

Just to finish off in case anyone had the same problems. This was successful. It upgraded a 1TB single disk to a 4TB Raid 5.

Is the data safe or deleted during raid 5 migration?

Yes, the data was perfectly fine at the end of the migration...

Follow Case 2 for the expansion I did above...
