[HELP] How do I fix USB-disk with "RAID1 failed"?

Post by HillBillyBob » Sat Feb 16, 2008 11:21 pm

How do I restore my Q-RAID1 setup to normal state? :?:

Background:
I have a QNAP 109 with an internal Seagate ST3500630AS 3.AA disk with an capacity of 476940 MB and an external USB-disk, a SAMSUNG HD501LJ with an capacity of 476940 MB. They are setup as Q-RAID 1. The firmware version is 1.1.3 build 110. All the while I have used Download Station to download Torrents.

Problem:
I had no problems until I activated Network Recycle Bin. After a while I noticed that there where some varning emails being reported, and eventually the main disk where reported as being full (0 MB Free size) and the USB disk reported "Status: Q-Raid 1 failed".

I then noticed that the Network Recycle Bin contained a large number of temporary copies of the same file having been downloaded though Download Station. I then emptied the Network Recycle Bin which freed up about 80 GB on the SATA disk and then waited for the RAID to rebuild.

This didn't happen automatically so I ejected the USB disk and reconnected it. Then the re-build started and after a long while the re-build ended but the status on the USB disk was still reported as "Q-RAID 1 failed" and in the logg it said "Q-RAID 1 initial syncing failed, maybe the capacity of destination is full."

I then retired it and this time it said "Q-RAID 1 initial syncing finished successfully" but it still reported Status for he USB disk as ""Q-RAID 1 failed"".

I have then tried a number of time with the the result of the status for the USB disk being "Q-RAID 1 failed" and the log entry being "Q-RAID 1 initial syncing failed, maybe the capacity of destination is full".

All the time the free capacity of the USB disk is reported as being 0 MB but the status of the SATA disk is reported as "Ready" and since emptying the Network Recycle Bin the capacity of the SATA disk has been 50+ GB. See the log enties below.

So, how do I restore my Q-RAID1 to normal state?

I have considered switching the mode of the USB disk from the current "Q-RAID1" to "Data Sharing, and then switch back to "Q-RAID1" mode, but the confirmation question "All disk data will be removed. Are you sure?" scares me - I do not want to lose any data on the SATA disk.
