RAID-5 migration eats space???

Post by fribse »

Hmm, I've been running RAID-1 for some time now, and it got filled up, so I've moved to a RAID 5 setup instead.
The migration has been running for 24 hrs, now, and it's at 81%.
The drives are reported as being 931.51 GB in size by the QNAP, which is prettye close to the 1000:1024 problem with bytes being calculated in 8's, and harddisc producers calculates in 10, to get a higher number.

Before the migration I had 2 GB free (it was whining all the time), now when it's at 81 % I have 844,84 GB free, and I should have 933,xx free, so where did the 90 (!!!) GB go :?:
Best regards

NO, RAID is NOT backup - Use RAID-Certified 24x7 drives for raid
HOWTO's:
Make automatic backup of ALL MySQL databases http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=15628

NAS-659 Pro II (3 GB Ram), Raid1, Survailance station, local backup destination + NAS-853A (16 GB Ram), Virtualization Station, Plex, iDrive
Network: Fritz!Box 7560 + 24p SG200 + 2x8p SG200 + 8p POE EdgeCore + 300/300 mbit Internet

What was the end result?

And are you still happy with your WD RE2-GP 10000GB drives?

That was apparently the end result. The disks are performing very nicely.
No problems with them at all (except they are too small  ).
