Backup/Restore of TimeMachine folder make the backups not usable

Post by katanel »

Hello guys,

Long short story for my Qnap NAS TS-251P3 in RAID 1 - WD RED 2x12 TB

I had choose one DataVolume at beginning and the backup for MacOS (TimeMachine shared folder) has increased around 8GB at some point

In the same time I periodically backup on an external USB HDD Drive (EXT4) my TimeMachine folder - for this I've use HBS3 Hybrid Backup Sync and create a One way Sync job - from NAS to external HDD

All good so far till...I decided to limit the size of DataVol1 to 8TB and to create another DataVol2 in addition for the remaining free space

I had no choice than delete /TimeMachine folder and recreated again and I've use the HBS3 Hybrid Backup One way sync job Sync to copy the /TimeMachine backup from the external backup to the NAS

The bad news is that: my iMac complains now that TimeMachine HDD is corrupted and someone wants to trick me?!! Probably a permission issues?!

Question is: what I did wrong? How reliable is the NAS as TimeMachine backup if we cannot use the recommended software to restore a backup...
