Should initial Time Machine Backup take 24 hours?

Post by venefice »

Hello All, new guy here.

I have set up my TS-932PX, fresh out of the box. Initially running 2 x 8TB Ironwolf as raid 1 (but I have plans).

Following the official QNAP advice page I have my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017, running Big Sur) making a Time Machine backup to the NAS.

It's trying to to make a 490GB backup, and the stopwatch is on 23 hours, with an estimated 1 hour remaining.

Can that be right? Seems awfully slow. Presumably if I had to do a full restore it would be quicker, but still I have concerns as to it's usefulness.

That seems very slow. What is the network speed? Is this on ethernet or wifi?
