QNAP just released 3.4.4 718T

and one of the enhancements is:

- [AFP] Added "AFP DHX2 support" to allow access to the NAS from Mac OSX Lion 10.7.

this is what I call Just-in-Time :-)

Hmm, the official Lion is now out.

I also have a QNAP 419P+ (turbo) with latest firmware installed.

Installed LIon on 27"imac, after Boot into Lion, OS complains that it cannot connect to AFP shares.
However after disabling and re-enabling TM support in QNAP webinterface, AFP share can be connected.

However TimeMachine backup fails with message that states: "This AFP feature is not supported by the selected TM back-up disk."

Also it is not possible to connect to the SAMBA share.

Recap;

Can connect to AFP share in finder
But TM backup does not work due to a: "missing: ÄFP feature on the selected TM backup disk."
Cannot connect to the SAMBA share.

Will check later for console messages.

Please always provide the version. Very different impressions what "newest" is, and much more also for future readers.

In the NAS Admin Web UI, go to Home >> Network Services >> Apple Networking and activate DHX2 ... it's on by default by the way in the "newest" v3.4.4 firmware

Well known and answered many times before: There is no OS X Lion TM support before v3.5.

If it makes anyone feel better, my Netgear ReadyNAS doesn't suppor Lion for either AFP OR TimeMachine!

So, back to USB backups for now.

Well my QNAP did not work correctly even with SL, In a way I hoped hat the new AFP implementation would fix that

3.4.3 Build0520

But yesterday, the latest version was not available for me yet.

Ok understood, but that was with the 'non official' Lion version, its was possible that the version that came out yesterday could have some changes that effected this issue. Even a GM can be different from the shipped version, and Apple also activated functions in the official Lion release (when it came out) which were not active in the GM, so the GM version lacked some functionality that the Lion version that came out yesterday does have...

I wanted to be complete on this issue.

there is no new AFP implementaiton in place - just an additional authentication scheme was added so OS X Lion can work AFP with the NAS.

If you experienced issue with AFP with Snow Leopard before, it's potentially
a) an issue with one or some applicaiton(s) using AFP features not fully or completely implemented on the NAS, or
b) an issue specific to your NAS.

yet another guy claiming that changing back to DHCAST128 should solve the TM/AFP problem

I do not have access to a Lion + QNAP setup at this moment to test this...

As the title says, It's only a workaround for the long connection time on AFP - it can NOT fix TimeMachine.

Final v3.5 firmware will address the repeated processing time for the initial AFP share access (reduce to one wait per client) and TimeMachine on OS X Lion.

When can one expect 3.5 and/or a beta to support TM?

Browse back this thread for some entries http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=3 ... 11#p211409 - It's a pure guess, I'm not QNAP.

I read the whole thread. :D That's why I'm asking....it's not real clear on 3.5 time-frame. Hopefully someone @ QNAP can chime in.

The developers/publishers of Duke Nukem Forever would have said "when it's ready" :-)

Can anyone confirm the rumors I've read (I think in the German support forum) that the DHX2 authentication issue is due to the "weak" ARM CPUs (such as my TS-110)? I have so far stayed at FW 3.4.2, but now with Lion, will I experience slow AFP performance as well?

The slower the processor the longer the authentication process - and the 800 MHz Mavell ARM is not a powerhouse for this business.
ghuber wrote: I have so far stayed at FW 3.4.2, but now with Lion, will I experience slow AFP performance as well?
It's not slow performance - it's the time required until the AFP session is established. QNAP V3.4.2 has DHX2 enabled by default, the AFP client will pick the best method available. Unless you are using an elderly OS X where the AFP client is not supporting DHX2 yet - every initial share connection using DHX2 will take it's time.

With v3.5 and netatalk 2.2, the CPU-intensive processing will be executed on the initial share connection from a client (and user), all subsequent share connections will not massively delayed anymore.

Regards,
-Kurt.
