Welcome to the QNAP NAS Community Forum!

agry73 wrote:The end result is that if I launch the CloudConnect client from my laptop, it won't connect to the NAS.
The fact that HTTP: 8080, 80 and HTTPS: 8081, 443 are not accessible might indicate there is a problem with your router, with port forwarding, double NAT due to the installation of multiple NAT routers in the data path, or more and more the non-availability of public IPv4 rout-able addresses on ISPs migration to IPv6 using DS-Lite.

CloudConnect app does _not_ connect to the Web ports - it's "just" a Windows helper App to configure and launch an (not very secure) PPTP VPN client configuration on your Windows system.

First, you should figure out if it's possible to make the Web port(s) - start with the QTS port 443/TCP (preferred, https) and 8080/TCP (http). WIth myQNAPcloud, there is an Automatic Router Configuration - and in the myQNAPcloud App on the NAS we haven an [i]nformation button - and the ability to generate a troubleshoot report:

myQNAPcloud - Debug Report.PNG

Run it, and post it here - falsify the public IP address potentially visible - unless it's an RFC1918 private address from the 192.168.x.x, 172.2x.x.x, or 10.x.x.x range.

PPTP as such does require open TCP 1723/TCP for the PPTP control connection, and the GRE protocol (IP protocol number 47) must be able to pass the router.

Afraid - networking and VPN is complex.

-Kurt.

"The" solution is to ensure the 1:1 NAT port forwarding (for example 443/TCP router Internet interface -> 443/TCP NAS LAN IP) does is properly configures (this implies the router does have a public routable IPv4 address on the "Outer" interface; only one NAT device is in the data path; no carrier ISP firewalling or contract regulations prohibit incoming connection; no carrier NAT as with very low cost ISP/mobile providers/IPv6 DS Lite connections; ...) - as kind of last-resort - CloudLink is configured.

With the NAS configured to a reserved/fixed DHCP address on the LAN or a static config with a working default config, with the myQNAPcloud Automatic Router Configuration, and (again) CloudLink as the last resort - everything the NAS or other IoT vendor can do in this context.

The community is happy to help - but please read replies just before yours ...

Regards,
-Kurt.

mine would fail the test since I have static port forwarding enable on the router. I dont care about the test - since it works the way I want!

If all ports are manually forwarded, I's expect the test would work - but I'm not talking of the simple test in myQNAPcloud App - see the details provided.

Great - of course NAT and port forwarding does work if properly configured, Internet connection, ISP, and c**ppy CPE not prohibiting.

I also am having the test fail on ports 80 and 8081. Has anyone made any progress on what could be the cause? Is there a way to debug it?

Come on - just a few replies before in this very same thread I've where you can capture the QNAP Automatic Router Configuration debug information plus some more ideas for the config ...

There can be plenty of other causes - an ISP no longer assigning a public IPv4 address to your Internet connection, same as before due to the ISP migration to IPv6 and DS Lite, multiple NAT devices in the data path (provider router plus user router), ...

In absence of any information - sorry.

...and another thread on the very similar topic ... viewtopic.php?f=313&t=117027 ... this is nothing we can "resolve" from the QNAP NAS GUI.

Sorry for the lack of information...

I found that the cause was actually that the correct services/apps from QNAP were not enabled. For example, if the web server is disabled, the test will fail for the ports that uses.

Different form the (useless) Control Panel -> System Status -> System Service showing a green thingie regardless if the service enabled is operational and working, this is a real connectivity check.

My problem resolved within the hour - I think maybe the web connectivity protocols needed to propagate. Or some such fancy hacker stuff.

Re: Web Connectivity - Failed

Post by FBIMitch » Tue Mar 26, 2019 1:02 pm

Here my fix
1 - Open myQNAPcloud - Overview
2 - Click on the Web Connectivity {red X icon} - this will display the blocked port.
3 - launch Control Panel - System: there you can change the HTTP and HTTPS system port if they are blocked. Example: if default HTTP port 8080 is blocked, simply rename to 8082. (then save settings). If blocked port is not listed, go to step 4, otherwise step 5.
4 - (check servers port) launch Control Panel - Web Server: there you can change the HTTP and HTTPS system port if they are blocked. Example: if default HTTP port 8081 is blocked, simply rename to 8083. (then save settings). That was the problem on my system!
5 - Open myQNAPcloud - Access Control
  • Rescan router (port update)
  • Apply to router (saves updates to router)
To check
1 - Open myQNAPcloud - Overview
2 - Click on the Web Connectivity Test button
