Setting up QVPN

Post by Marrach » Sun Mar 08, 2020 7:59 am

We read quite a bit about NAS security issues and the suggestion that VPN is the way to go 'The only way to go!!'.

We have installed QVPN Services and are about to start set things up but straight away are confronted with a choice which I have not been able to find the answer to on this forum, unless of couse I've missed it.

A few quick questions...
Which of the following do you suggest we enable and use please?
Are there any security issues with either?
PPTP?
L2TP/IPsec (PSK)? or
OpenVPN?

Does anyone use an alternative VPN & why? What in particular would be the benefit of us using the same?

Thanks in anticipation!!

If supported, create a VPN server instance on your router, rather than the NAS.

Use OpenVPN.

TLDR: use openvpn for the best security

Setting up QVPN. And why you should use VPN to connect to your QNAP NAS remotely.

and like onecd pointd out, setting the vpn server on router may be the better option. QVPN is a secondary option for setting up VPN server direct to NAS.
