QNAP cloud SSL "Try again later"

Post by villumsign »

Hello,

Trying to install a myQNAPcloud SSL certificate on our QNAP NAS. Bought a certificate (since Let's Entrypt it wouldn't accept any e-mail address I tried).
But whenever I try to install I'm just told to "Try again later".

So I googled and found threads from people who had the same problem in the past. I've tried all of their suggestions, including making sure MTU is 1500 and certain services has certain ports. We've also tried resetting the QNAP NAS, all to no avail.
I'm still told to "Try again later".

What gives?

No, just a WebDAV access to a certain folder.

Opinions seems to vary about whether WebDAV + SSL is "safe enough". Some say it is, some say it isn't.

VPN is also an option, but not having much luck with that either. But haven't spent long on that.

SSL does nothing to protect the NAS....so not sure what you are referencing

what are the VPN troubles (do vpn via dedicated appliance)

The router will only open traffic on the single HTTPS port that forwards to the WebDAV protocol.

Are you saying that the QNAP NAS is easy to hack with an open HTTPS WebDAV port?

VPN trouble might be because I hadn't opened port 47, but have to wait till tomorrow to find out.

qnap is bad in fixing security holes..so I wouldnt trust a single port forwarded to the nas

What kind of access would you trust then?

Would you trust a VPN connection? That also requires two open ports.

Alright, thanks for you input.
We will probably buy a new router then, that comes with a built-in VPN.

So I've been told by a local IT company, that a Samba share over VPN is dead slow, and it's a terrible idea to use a VPN to access a Samba share.

Have ordered a new router, and will set up a firewall that only allows a handful of IP addresses in. Then setup WebDAV, because initial tests were good.

So I'd still appreciate some help getting the SSL certificate to install.

Anyone got any clues about the "Try again later" message?

I use samba via ipsec and openvpn .. besides a littlebit of encryption overhead..no slowdown for me (besides wan connection speed limit)...so not sure what that IT guy is talking about

Well I can experiment. The new router also has VPN functionality.

But I would still like to be able to install that SSL certificate that we bought and payed for. Or otherwise at least get a refund.

Anyone?

I have the same problem - Trying to install a myQNAPcloud SSL certificate on our QNAP NAS. But whenever I try to install I'm just told to "Try again later".

Nota bene. This thread is about "Try again later", it is not about discussing general security issues, VPNs, weather or Donald Trump.
