Deleted my QNAPcloud service app. What else should I do ?

Post by David Morrow » Tue Oct 27, 2020 4:43 am

I set up an account and installed the QNAP cloud service but on dolbyman's advice, I have deleted the app. But, presumably I still have an account with QNAP. I have a bit of a trust issue with QNAP given their history of viruses in firmware and app updates. What else can I do to ensure that my QNAP doesn't create a weak spot target for someone hacking my home network? I do not have a great understanding of opening and closing ports and that does worry me a bit; did I give QNAP the proverbial keys to my vault ? ( I do have multiple backups of the NAS's contents. )

I have no information/knowlage about any sort of virus/malware in firmware or app updates.

I do advice against exposing the NAS to the open web to prevent attacks in form of bruteforce or exploits.

Having an account with QNAP on myqnapcloud is not dangerous by itself. Consult your router manual and check how to disables uPnP, manual portfowards are unlikely (as you would have created them in the first place)
