Removal of my Devices

Post by Adrius42 »

One by one QNAP have removed my devices from their Network.

Having read that QNAP servers are often vulnerable to attack, and currently are.

I chose to keep them off line.

Occasionally I will connect them to the internet and upgrade the software, but do not wish to leave an attack surface open that I do not need.

For reasons that I do not understand QNAP have chosen to design features like apps requiring web connection.

It has suddenly occurred to me that I may also be losing the service that connects my QNAPs together and allows file synch and backup.

Can anyone tell me if my fears are accurate.

I will admit to being very frustrated by QNAPs approach to degrading the capabilities of my QNAP devices because I chose to protect my data.

Is anyone else also similarly frustrated. Apparently they refuse to provide a path to regain the original capabilities of the device.

Is this true?

as long as you do not forward any ports from wan to your nas (manual or upnp) you are relatively safe

why do you think you need to disable internet access of your nas ?
