Use myQnapcloud to access LAN computer

Post by madseason41 »

Just looking for a quick yes no maybe answer for the below scenario. I think I know the answer but would like a network expert to chime in.

Is it possible to use the myqnapcloud dns to acccess a computer attached to my lan without enabling DHCP on the NAS?

I currently connect to headphones gui with myqnapcloud.com dns but have recently moved headphones to another computer on my LAN.

Can I access this computers ip address with the myqnapcloud.com dns through my router setup? The router is my DHCP server but the NAS hosts the myqnapcloud dns.

I assume I must enable dhcp on the NAS and disable DHCP on the main router to make this work. Am I correct in this assumption or is there amethod for this?

Router is a netgear wndr 3700 and NAS is a TS-219 PII.

Scenario:

Past setup: Headphones app on running on NAS (192.168.0.6)
Past setup: (web) www.myqnapcloud.com:8181 = connects to headphones gui.
Past setup: (lan) 192.168.0.6:8181 = connects to headphones gui.

Desired function

New setup: Headphones app running on dedicated machine (192.168.0.16)
New setup: (web) www.myqnapcloud.com:8181 = connects to headphones gui
New setup: (lan) 192.168.0.16:8181 = connects to headphones gui

Thanks for the help.

I am an idiot.... my asssumption was that since my router was the dhcp and the NAS hosts the DNS (mqnpacloud) that port forwarding would not work.

I was wrong there never was an issue.

Mod feel free to close this thread.
