TVS-873 GPU Passthrough

Post by gungey »

I recently bought a TVS-873 (running 4.3.1), which comes with an integrated R7 GPU. I was hoping to access the GPU via passthrough in Virtualization Station, as I read on the QNAP site that R7 and R9 passthrough is supported.

However, I can't find a way to do this? It seems from other threads that GPU passthrough isn't currently supported in VS 3.0 Beta?

Haven't seen a way to do it either. I would suggest opening a helpdesk ticket to try and get it added.

Yep, they said:

"Currently there is no plan to enable GPU pass through for this model in the future"

It's a real shame, as it should be easily possible to take advantage of what is a reasonably powerful GPU.

I checked with some of my contacts in QNAP and the issue is due to GPU passthrough not being supported by the AMD chip/drivers.

It isn't a QNAP "doesn't want to do it" issue, but a technical "can't do it" issue.

Thanks for letting me know - does the driver issue look like it's something that could be resolved in future?

Based on what they communicated to me, NO. There is also a silicon dependency for passthrough in the AMD APU which doesn't sound like it exists.
