VMware SVGA II driver

Post by Metria »

I have a TS-563 running virtual server 2012 r2. It is working great except that it shows it's using Microsoft Basic Display driver. Looking up the hardware it is actually VMware SVGA II. However I can find no driver for it, and I cannot load VMWare's toolbox, where I believe the driver is located, I think because the QNAP Virtual agent will not start.

I am confused. I can load the iso you mentioned. The guest agent in it still will not run (will not start). The VFD's I have no idea how to use. I admit I'm a bit new to this. I already have the virtual network and drive drivers working.

VS has nothing to do with VMware guest/tools. You will want to unlstinall any VMware tools/drivers.

I have no vmware tools or anything else installed. Just the virtual Drivers provided by qnap. Just searching for the virtual video driver..

You need to install the QXL driver and switch you VS config to use QXL for video mode.

Which version of VS are you running? Which QTS firmware/build version are you running? Did you create the VM from scratch in VS or did you import it?

Please post a screenshot of your VM display setting as the VMware driver had to have been installed via VMware tools at one point.

Ok... so VMVGA is not the same as VMware VGA, so the screenshot helped.

QXL is only available on VS 3.0 Beta I believe, which is based on a newer QEMU version. I don't remember if that requires QTS 4.3.x to run.

I would definitely recommend going to the newer VS 3.x version, but shutdown your VM and make a backup before upgrading VS.

Thank you for helping me figure this out. This system is going into a production environment next week, and not ready to try out beta software on it. I will let you know once it's released and I have some downtime if that was the issue!
